Between August 28 and September 10, the prestigious US Open will take place in Flushing Meadows, New York. This final Grand Slam of the season is held on the concrete courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The US Open has come a long way since its inception in 1881 as an exclusive men’s singles and doubles event in Newport, RI. It has transformed into a two-week sports and entertainment extravaganza in Flushing Meadows, New York. Legendary players like Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras, and Roger Federer have all won the tournament five times, sharing the Open Era record for most singles titles. Other notable champions include Rafael Nadal, who has won it four times, and the Argentines Guillermo Vilas and Juan Martin Del Potro, who have each claimed the title once. The current defending champion is Carlos Alcaraz.
Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are the top favorites to clinch the title. These two players have been dominating the tennis scene this season and are engaged in a fierce battle for the top spot in the world rankings, which will be at stake in the US Open.
The Argentine representatives in the tournament will be Francisco Cerúndolo, Tomás Etcheverry, Sebastián Báez, Pedro Cachin, Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, Diego Schwartzman, and Guido Pella. Meanwhile, Alejandro Davidovich, Roberto Carballés Baena, Bernabé Zapata, and Albert-Ramos Viñolas will be representing Spain.
