As with all automakers, the path to sustainability has many dangerous curves and pitfalls, but the one chosen by Porsche it doesn’t stop where the streets end and the sea begins: it goes beyond. If the asphalt elects the renewed Taycan and Macan as protagonists, the water welcomes the high zero-emission performance of the Frauscher X Porsche 850 Fantom Air. This is the electric variant of the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air, the result of the collaboration between Porsche and the Austrian company that has been producing boats since 1927. Founded by Engelbert Frauscher, it is today driven by the third generation of heirs who have found their natural habitat on Garda, thanks also to the experience and passion of the importer Mauro Feltrinelli of the shipyard of the same name.

An 8.67 meter long day cruiser, with a sophisticated design and capable of remarkable performance. The electric propulsion architecture is the same as the Macan: permanent excited synchronous electric motor, with peak power limited to 400 kW/544 Cvpowered by a 100 kWh battery pack for approx 55 nautical miles of autonomyequivalent to around 108 km/h. The usage time estimated by Frauscher and Porsche is around 2.30 hours of navigation at a pace that is not too sporty. The ideal cruising speed is 22 knots (approximately 41 km/h), the maximum declared speed is 46 (85 km/h) but, pushing to the maximum, the autonomy drops to around 15 minutes of use. Optimal weight distribution was achieved by positioning the electric motor at the edge of the stern, under the control unit sealed in a waterproof box. The lithium ion battery is located below the cockpit, protected by a frame with steel suspensions dedicated to absorbing the stresses generated by fast navigation. Through Porsche’s 800-volt technology, the speedboat can be recharged above 250 kW in direct current, to restore 10% to 80% of energy in less than 30 minutes under the best conditions. Alternating current charging with traditional domestic sockets is also available, available in most ports. An 11 kW AC charger is also on board as standard. The price of Frauscher X Porsche 850 Fantom Air starts from 561,700 euros.

Contrary to what happens on the new Macan, which invites you to sink on the gas as soon as possible, the wide marine spaces are exploited much more gradually by the Frauscher X Porsche 850 Fantom Air. This is because the searing acceleration typical of electric vehicles can put a strain on the mechanical components exposed to the changes in the hull. But from medium speeds, which are difficult to perceive due to the slight hiss emitted by the rotor and the transmission, electric passenger navigation becomes truly engaging. Approaching top speed the boat seems to become muted compared to the blowing of the wind and the lapping of the water on the hull, which offers a high degree of protection from splashes to the occupants. A taste of sustainable navigation offered by Porsche and Frauscher on the sea of the French Riviera but aimed at every nautical context, regardless of trying to petrol and diesel engines already established in many European lakes.
