The sports structure on the banks of the Lot is approaching this Olympic year with complete confidence: international teams and delegations have been welcoming for weeks, and the dynamic will continue until the launch of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The 2k24 base is in very good condition. Olympic, one would be tempted to say. Since the start of the year, the sports site on the banks of the Lot has hosted a series of receptions for athletes, teams from the four corners of France and even the entire planet. Last week, the La Plagne 3×3 basketball team trained in Temple-sur-Lot to prepare for this summer’s Olympic Games. “I arrived ten years ago and saw that things had changed a lot. There are very high-level facilities to accommodate the athletes preparing for the Games,” applauded Marie Mané, regularly selected basketball player. in the French team. A few months ago, Olympic judo champion Clarisse Agbégnénou came here to refine her training before the world championships.

The Temple-sur-Lot Base has invested 12 million euros in its project to modernize its structures. When the project was put into orbit, obviously, Paris 2024 was in the crosshairs. The new infrastructure – a building with two swimming pools and accommodation, and a gym – was delivered in the second half of 2022. Accommodation capacity increased from 280 to 350 beds (including 56 PRM). Since then, sports courses have multiplied, taking advantage of the Olympic dynamic but above all the quality of the Lot-et-Garonnaise facilities.

The French teams favor the 2k24 Base, in particular for its stretch of water whose reputation is well established.

Finland, Denmark, Canada, Algeria…

The boss of La Base 2k24, Bruno Blucheau, sees the first results of this long-term work emerging. The site was known above all for its body of water, it was necessary to show its capacity to diversify. In addition to the national and international rowing and canoe-kayak teams, there are judo, basketball and disabled sports training teams. Athletes from – and to come – from England, Finland, Denmark but also from Canada and Algeria. “The uniqueness of the place is very pleasing,” reports Bruno Blucheau, who is still in contact with other training groups for the weeks to come. A parameter that was not necessarily a priority at the start of the project, ease of access for people with mobility proves to be a winner. “We put our suitcases down, and everything nearby. This is even more confirmed for disabled people, when they have heavy logistics with armchairs, etc.

The upper echelons of the French Rowing Federation were not mistaken either. Shareholder of the Base and investors for the renovation work, it is at the Temple that they chose to organize their general meeting. The opportunity to see the dynamism of the place. “It’s recognition,” rejoices Bruno Blucheau. If the calendar is established until this Olympic and Paralympic summer, the boss of the Base is already preparing for the aftermath. “History is far from being written, tomorrow’s activity must come to fruition. We respond to a need and it is the teams who talk about it best. Word of mouth must have its effect. Some teams are already talking about preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Games and their desire to return to the banks of the Lot. The Temple Base intends to be present at every Olympiad.
