Yucatán Athletes Ready to Shine at Conade 2024 Nationals: A Thousand Strong Team Sets Sights on Victory

MÉRIDA.— With the commitment to provide their greatest effort to transcend and elevate the entity, a delegation of more than a thousand people, with 898 athletes, received the Yucatecan banner to participate in the Conade 2024 Nationals.

From May 10 to July 11, the main youth sports competition in the country will take place, and the Yucatecans were flagged this Thursday at the “Socorro Cerón Herrera” Multigymnasium facilities of the Kukulcán Sports Complex.

In addition to the athletes, a group of coaches, presidents of associations, doctors and operational personnel will attend, who will compete in the states of Jalisco, Campeche, State of Mexico and Colima.

“It is a commitment: we are going for everything for Yucatán,” said Mauricio Canul Facundo, one of the main exponents of weightlifting and part of the group that formed the escort when receiving the banner.

Yucatán hopes to surpass the performance it had in 2023 when it won 65 gold medals, 71 silver and 83 bronze medals for a total of 229 medals.

The ceremony was attended by Jorge Esteban Abud, director of the Yucatán Sports Institute; Alejandro Ruz Castro, mayor of Mérida, and deputy Karem Achach Ramírez, former Pan American Games and World Cup medalist.

Jalisco will be the headquarters with the most athletes with 634 corresponding to sports such as boxing, skating, basketball, soccer, baseball, tennis, calvados, sports shooting, sailing, archery, bowling, wrestling, fencing, artistic swimming, cycling, athletics, trampoline and rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, karate, tae kwon do and table tennis, among others, while in the State of Mexico there will only be canoeing and rowing, with Yucatán competing with 35 athletes.

The sports that contributed the most medals last year were archery with 14 gold, 10 silver and 13 bronze; swimming, with 10 gold and 2 silver; chess with 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze and weightlifting with 6 gold, 9 silver and 17 bronze, same disciplines that will return in search of places in the medal table.

Likewise, with 4 gold medals were sailing, tae kwon do, judo, karate; with 3, trampoline gymnastics and table tennis; athletics with 2 gold and finally with one gold, fencing, rhythmic, wrestling, rowing and sports shooting.
