Pour Lucas Corvée Et Ronan Labar, the disillusionment is immense. Together, the two French people thought they would qualify for the badminton tournament of the 2024 Olympic Games thanks to their first place in the “Race to Paris” rankings. But that was without taking into account a calculation error on the part of the International Badminton Federation which, as La Dépêche recalls, ultimately qualified another French duo, that of brothers Christo and Toma Junior Popov.

At the top of the ranking until April 17, Lucas Corvée and Ronan Labar discovered that some points had been removed in the last update. “This withdrawal of points would be linked to a calculation error dating back to May 2023 during the Sudirman Cup, the first competition counting for the Olympic ranking,” specify the two athletes in a letter that our colleagues have consulted.

“The BWF would like us – and many players – to got extra points due to an error in their accounting system, They continue. All the tournaments of the Olympic year were played with this erroneous classification. The seeds, the lists of qualified players in each competition, the athletes’ strategy, were built on this error” they testify.

To be French Badminton Federation appealed to the international body for explanations. But, for now, the two athletes feel cheated, the “project of a lifetime” ruined. “It’s a real earthquake, an explosion that we are experiencing,” explain the two French people. “The dream of a life that appears and then disappears without explanation.”
