The KogyJudo School of Melilla held the Zonal Phase 4 of selection for the Madrid Autonomous Judo Championship last Sunday. Lucía Rey in -66Kg, female cadet category and Lorenzo Sánchez in -50Kg, male junior category occupied the highest part of the final podium and won the gold medal. Silver Medal for Menel Aisha, in the female children’s 66Kg. It should also be added that Adam Hussain in -81 Kg, in cadet and Eros López in -38Kg, in junior, obtained bronze.

The team won five medals, which could have been double. Iker Ruiz, Mohamed El Amaouri, Santiago Segura and Juan A. Martín were one step away from qualifying. Also highlight some arbitration decisions that harmed Melilla athletes.

The day opened at 8:00 a.m. with the weighing of the cadets and ended at 4:00 p.m. with the presentation of medals to the fry. A long day that was made better by receiving the love and support of some parents and relatives who went to the Francisco Valcarcel Pavilion in Villaviciosa de Odón to cheer on the Melilla judokas. Those classified will have the opportunity to participate in the Regional Championship on April 6 and 7, the final selection phase for the National School Judo Championship.

The director of the Francisco Luque School regrets “the lack of understanding and collaboration of the City Sports Department and the non-existent financial support to date for parents and athletes who travel repeatedly after excellent results. For the majority, it is unfeasible or impossible to return, despite having qualified, since they make a great economic effort in the first trip,” he commented.
