There are ceremonies that are valuable for their rarity. This Friday, May 3, the evening training of the judokas of the Saint-Pierre-d’Irube club had the flavor of family reunions that we remember for a long time. At the end of a session bringing together a large number of practitioners on the mats of the local dojo, professor Roland Dargelez was able to give his black belt to the young Ohiana Saint-Esteben-Pelletan.

“I have been president of this very family club for 8 years and I must admit that this is the first black belt that we have recorded since I took office. I am delighted to see the regular efforts and endearing personality of our young member rewarded in this way. Ohiana is a hard worker and a very worthy competitor. This success is a great example for all our young people and proof of our good collaboration with the Anglet club,” comments Laurence Delplang.

Supreme grade

Ohiana started judo at the age of 11 and regularly won the belts which reward consistency and technical background. Now 19 years old, she has just successfully completed all the tests necessary to obtain the highest grade for any judoka.

“This course has strengthened my personality,” recognizes the smiling champion. Forgotten the Covid period which almost pushed me to abandon this very demanding sport. I owe a lot to Roland who has trained me since I started, to Mickaël, my tatami partner, as well as to Nathalie, Raphaël and Jean Marc, the teachers from Dojo Angloy who welcome me twice a week. They trained me very seriously, always encouraged me and were able to give me valuable advice. Carrying out my studies as a specialist educator on a work-study basis at the Elgarrekin entertainment center, I have few excuses for missing club training. In fact, I don’t even have 15 meters to go from leaving work to leaving the dojo! »

To the great pleasure of the judokas from Hiriburuko Ainhara’s club who admit to having often bitten the mat because of the technique of their solid colleague!
