Vanir Kamira, the super mare who won Badminton and Burghley with Piggy March, is having a career change at the age of 19. The daughter of the 1.60 m stallion Camiro de Haar Z, a breeding product of Piet and Sjaan Griffioen, continues her career in dressage.

Vanir Kamira is owned by Trevor Dickens. His 13-year-old granddaughter Annabelle Wesley and the mare are on the longlist for the European Dressage Championships for Children in St Margarethen, Austria (16-21 July).

Badminton and Burghley winner

‘Tilly’, as Vanir Kamira is called in the stable, was one of the best eventing horses in the world under Piggy French. She won Badminton in 2019 and Burghley in 2022. The pair finished fourth in Badminton in 2022, second in Burghley in 2017 and 2019 and fifth in 2018.

Top of her game

Piggy French announced Vanir Kamira’s retirement from five-star eventing in March last year, saying she was “still in top form and enjoying her work as much as ever” but that she wanted to retire from top-level sport “ when she was at the top of her game.”

Winning debut

In September the mare was retired at Burghley and shortly afterwards Annabelle Wesley started riding her. The pair made a winning debut in dressage in October and now have a good chance of being sent to the European Championships in Austria.
