At the end of the first round of the Corales Puntacana Championship, a PGA Tour event which takes place the same week as the RBC Heritage, the American Wesley Bryan is in the lead. Of the three French people competing, Victor Perez is the one who did the best in this tournament which for him is a bit of a “consolation” tournament.

Victor Perez believed for a time that he could play RBC Heritage. But the too-quick announcement of his qualification for the Signature Event by the PGA Tour changed nothing. The Tarbais must be content this week to compete in the parallel tournament of the American circuit, much less endowed, which is played in the Dominican Republic. He will try to achieve a big result to move up to the FedExCup and improve his playing rights for future events.

The 93rd in the world got off to a pretty good start in this tournament with a solid card of 70 which places him on the right side of the cut for the moment. However, he has already been taken down by the leader Wesley Bryan, 34, whose record includes a PGA Tour title at the… RBC Heritage in 2017. In Puntacana, the player from South Carolina, who is playing only his second tournament of the year after a missed cut in Puerto Rico, succeeded in a demonstration on this first day. He could even have broken the house without a bogey on the par 5 of the 14th but the 786th in the world is still launched like a ball thanks to his 63, marked by an eagle and eight birdies.

Charley Hoffmanthe 47-year-old veteran who came close to winning the Phoenix Open in February, as well as Chan Kim et Troy Merritt follow with three moves.

The two other French people competing in this event alongside Victor Perez suffered. After an excellent start (-2 after four holes), Martin Trainer experienced a horrible sequence (double bogey, quadruple bogey, bogey) at the end of his leg. The misfortunes of Paul Barjon came a little later in his game. The duo returns a card of 77 (+5) which drops them to the bottom of the ranking
