He postponed the procedure several times, he didn’t want to go under the rug. He preferred to have his leg pricked with an injection. But the pain was unbearable. At the end of February, therefore Michal Kadlec underwent Achilles tendon surgery. For the end of the season, the captain of Slovácko is out of the game. And his coach expressed concern about him continuing in professional football.

Kadlec was dragging it out

“He wanted to say goodbye on the field. But one cannot recommend health. I think he was dragging his feet with the achilles. He should have dealt with it after the autumn season. Looking for the motivation to go back at the age of forty is very difficult,” said Slovácko coach Martin Svědík for iSport.

The 39-year-old full-back, who was once also interested in Liverpool, had problems with the mentioned tendon for several months. He was drawn to her already last August. “It was unbearable at the time, but the injections worked and I was pain-free for the next two months,” stated Kadlec. But last November, the attachment was heard again.

He couldn’t walk for three days

After consulting with the doctors, he decided to continue conservative treatment. But nothing helped. “I knew something was wrong,” said the defender. He played 67 matches and scored 8 goals in the national team, whose new reinforcements we also wrote about on SportechŽiv. Back in March, he was planning how he would say goodbye to his career on the field. But now it looks pale. “I think he feels that way too. Kác has already done a lot for football. He will probably think a lot about whether he will return to it at all.” added Svědík, who after almost six years is ending his tenure on Slovácko’s bench.

Kadlec has enjoyed his career with his battered body. Groin surgery, strained knee ligaments, back pain and other muscle injuries. But the biggest injury happened off the field. In April 2012, the then Bayer defender was attacked outside a disco by two Cologne fans and his nose was broken. He even had to undergo two operations with it.
