The reason for this is because the league confirms that the officiating team overseeing the game overlooked a Maxey travel when he made a 3-pointer with 25.4 seconds left. During this play, he was also fouled by Knicks center Mitchell Robinson and successfully made the free throw, marking the start of an incredible comeback by Philadelphia after being down 6 points with only 28.9 seconds left in regulation. The 76ers ultimately won in overtime with a score of 112-106, keeping their season alive.

Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday evening in Philadelphia. If Philadelphia is victorious, Game 7 will take place in New York on Saturday evening.

Based on the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report for Game 5 of the unforgettable first-round matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks, Tyrese Maxey’s impressive performance was actually a mistake. There were three other calls that were deemed incorrect: there should have been 0.4 seconds left in regulation, and Knicks ball, after Nicolas Batum blocked Jalen Brunson’s potential game-tying shot out of bounds (the clock instead ran out, sending the game to overtime); Brunson should’ve been called for an offensive foul in overtime on the play that ultimately became a flagrant foul on Joel Embiid for hitting Brunson in the head; and Josh Hart was not actually out of bounds with 41.5 seconds to go.

Both teams have overcome deficits of at least five points in the last 30 seconds of regulation to secure a win in this series. This has only occurred three times in the last 25 years before the playoffs, but has now happened twice in the same venue in the past 10 days.
