FIFA has unveiled the long-awaited lists of players and coaches competing for the prestigious The Best FIFA Football Awards 2024. African women footballers, although few in number compared to the male nominees, mark this edition.
The prestigious event of The Best FIFA Football Awards 2024 once again honors the most emblematic figures of world football. Many Africans are in the running for the men’s list of these prestigious distinctions. But, although few in number, female footballers from the continent are starting to play in the big leagues.
In a context where FIFA is introducing new initiatives to promote women’s football, the exceptional performances of these rising African stars have allowed them to be among the contenders for the prestigious title of The Best – FIFA Women’s Player. Among these leading figures:
– Barbra Banda (Zambia), who shone with both Shanghai Shengli and Orlando Pride, is in the running for the title thanks to her talent and her impact on the game.
– Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi), a major asset for Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais, stands out for her consistency and her ability to transcend encounters.

However, distinctions such as the Supporters’ Prize or the Fair Play Prize remain specific, with voting methods limited respectively to amateurs and a panel of experts.
The winners of The Best FIFA Football Awards 2024 will be revealed in early 2025 in a ceremony that promises to celebrate excellence in world football.
