ENNS. The “Bozen Spring”, an international junior badminton tournament in South Tyrol, took place from April 26th to 28th, 2024. The Enns badminton young player Emma Gérard was able to take home gold in the women’s doubles U13.

Many exciting games took place in a great atmosphere at the very well-attended youth tournament with over 340 participants. ÖBV squad player Emma Gérard and her brother Paul Gérard started for the Askö Enns Badminton for the first time. Both were able to compete with players from over 20 nations and gain valuable experience at this level. Emma Gérard and her partner Katharina Ertl (UBC Neuhofen) won the U13 girls doubles after great and exciting matches and took home a gold medal.

Ninth in singles

Gérard also won her preliminary group in the U13 girls’ singles with three clear wins against an Italian, a Swiss and a Czech. She then met her doubles partner and later three-time tournament winner in the round of 16 and came ninth in the singles. “Taking home a gold medal the first time I competed at an international tournament fills me with great pride and makes me very happy,” says Michael Peter Giel, chairman of the club, enthusiastic about the achievements shown. Paul Gérard played in the U11 competition and was able to win a game against the Italian Leo Grillo in three sets in his preliminary group and came second in the group. “The performance and especially the victory of the eight-year-old Paul against the much older Italian at such a big tournament is also worth highlighting! These experiences help enormously to develop further,” Giel concludes.
