Dutch football icon Ruud Gullit has voiced his growing frustration with the current state of the game, believing that many competitions are lacking in creativity, and spectacle. The former AC Milan star and Netherlands captain says modern matches often sense overly strategic and devoid of the spontaneous brilliance he enjoyed during his playing career.

Disappointment with Recent Matches

Gullit recently admitted he hasn’t been captivated by recent football matches. During an appearance on the Ziggo Sport program Rondo, he was asked about watching PEC Zwolle’s 0-0 draw against Ajax. He confessed he hadn’t followed Ajax’s matches for weeks.

“I haven’t had much fun watching football lately anyway,” Gullit stated.

He similarly described a recent Arsenal FC versus Chelsea FC match as a dress match, criticizing the lack of individual flair and the overreliance on tactical structure.
