Yoga’s Rise as a Holistic Practice for Mind and Body
Published February 22, 2026
The Synthesis of Strength, Flexibility, and Inner Peace
An emerging practice is gaining traction for its benefits to both physical activity and mental health. Yoga, a discipline established as a holistic activity, is experiencing increased relevance worldwide. It combines physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation to improve overall health.
Yoga is considered a philosophy of life built on three fundamental pillars: asanas
(postures to improve strength and flexibility); pranayama
(breathing techniques); and meditation (to focus the mind, reduce stress and achieve inner peace).
From Physical Relief to Mental Well-being
The journey into yoga often begins with a physical need. One practitioner described starting yoga after experiencing low back pain that hindered other activities. When I started this discipline the pain quickly disappeared
, they shared. I came from a very dynamic activity and, when I started practicing yoga, it was something more passive than what I was used to. I discovered that yoga is not only physical, but that it acts at a deeper level.
”
This realization led to a deeper understanding of yoga’s impact. After a while, I asked myself ‘What’s going on here?’ I wanted the calm that I had during the class and I realized that I couldn’t leave it anymore.

The Importance of Practice and Self-Awareness
The benefits of yoga extend beyond the physical. It emphasizes self-care and awareness of the body, diet, breathing, and daily attitude. I began to self-manage many things emotionally, physically and mentally. It is not that the problems do not occur or are not there, but I have the tools through yoga to be balanced, to be centered and to get through situations without being overwhelmed.
”
The practitioner stresses the importance of putting theory into practice. I can grant you the theory but, if you don’t put it into practice, it won’t work for you. I learn every day and I continue looking for information because there is always something fresh or with another perspective or being in another situation.

A Growing and Diverse Field
The yoga landscape has evolved, with a greater number of teachers and diverse approaches available. We find many more teachers than when I started and it is important, because diversity means that you have a choice.
”
While traditionally dominated by women, there’s a growing presence of male practitioners and teachers. Many men began to get excited and there are likewise male teachers, which is key. In any case, in general in Argentina, the majority of practitioners are women.

Global Perspectives on Yoga
Comparisons between Western and Indian approaches to yoga reveal cultural differences. In India, yoga is often an ancestral practice integrated into daily life. They do it as a matter of evolution, where the body is a temple where you cannot let another control it. You yourself have to take care of it, protect it and heal it if necessary.
”
In contrast, Western practices often focus on the physical aspects. Here it is more anatomy, that is, it is done for the physical part. Most of those who start do it with the idea of improving flexibility or relieving pain and it is not that they come to seek a greater connection with themselves.
