The Bloomington-Normal area is grappling with the sudden death of D’Mitri Dunson-Riggs, who passed away on Sunday, just days before his 35th birthday. The loss is being deeply felt by players, coaches, and families throughout the region.

Those who knew Dunson-Riggs described him as a quiet and humble leader who led by example. He overcame health challenges, including heart surgery as a child, to pursue his passion for basketball.

His partner, Nina Chiodo, highlighted his dedication to his players and his joy in seeing them succeed. He found joy and peace in being able to give back to individuals and see them succeed,” Chiodo said. It lit up his world to say the least.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington, IL, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
