A few days later, South Africa will visit Bangladesh to play a two-match Test series. But before that they heard bad news. Their pacer Andre Berger has suffered a lumbar injury. Because of that, he will not be able to play in the remaining two ODIs of the series against Ireland and the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the matter in a statement today, Friday (04 October). Berger was experiencing discomfort in his lumbar vertebrae, they wrote. Then a scan of his lower back was done. The injury was diagnosed there. Berger will return to the country due to injury. There will be other assessments he needs.

It will take 4 to 6 weeks for Berger to recover from the type of injury he suffered. Henrich Norcchia also suffered a similar injury recently. It took him about six months to recover.

However, the CSA is yet to announce who will replace him against Ireland. However, it said that the squads for Dhaka and Chittagong Tests against Bangladesh will be given soon.

With the 29-year-old Berger out injured, the Proteas’ pace bowling attack includes Kagisu Rabada, Dan Patterson and Wian Mulder.

Before Berger, batsman Tony Di Georgi was injured. He is suffering from right knee tissue injury. That’s why he was not included in the team for today’s second match. However, he may be kept in the team for the Test series against Bangladesh.
