Flers Badminton Club: A Hub for Competition and Community
Around Flers, the opportunity to play badminton is significant. Basically, when a gymnasium exists, we can consider that a badminton club will be created
underlines Aurélien Boussion, president of the Flérien club. Several surrounding towns, including Chanu, Saint George-des-Groseillers, and Messei, also have their own clubs.
A Welcoming and Unified Club
The Flers Badminton Club isn’t just about competition; it’s about fostering a strong community. Martial Poupinel, a league referee from the Messii club, highlights the club’s collaborative spirit.
During the renovation of our room, the Flérien club welcomed us by offering us slots in their own room. The dialogue with Aurélien is always simple and constructive. He’s a real unifier.
This inclusive approach is evident in the club’s internal tournaments. At each association event, we organize a doubles tournament where the partner is drawn. New practitioners are thus integrated exceptionally quickly.
Four Teams and 72 Licensees
Currently, the club boasts four teams competing in various championships, with Aurélien Boussion himself captaining team 1 at the departmental level. Players also have the opportunity to participate in individual championships. Boussion leads by example, competing in the departmental championship on March 15 and 16.
Developing the Next Generation
Although the club welcomes adults, developing young talent is a key focus. Gabin, a 14-year-vintage player, discovered his passion for the sport during Covid confinement.
I started this sport in my garden during the Covid confinement”explains this young college student. From now on, he is the highest ranked disappointing player in the club. “I train three times a week.
The club offers dedicated training sessions for young licensees aged 10 to 15, supervised by four coaches. It’s a niche for 10 to 15 year olds, but if a younger child is comfortable with motor skills, they can also join it
explains Aurélien Boussion. Gabin emphasizes the physical demands of the sport: In bad, technique comes quickly, you must above all be endurance and explosive.
