Antonio Campoy Crowned Mataró’s Top Athlete for 2025

Mataró kickboxer Antonio Campoy was the star of the 71st Night of Sports by winning the award for best athlete of 2025. The gala, held yesterday, Friday the 27th at the Monumental Theater, brought together the city’s sports community and recognized a total of 48 individual athletes and 20 teams for their results throughout the year.

Campoy’s Championship Run

Campoy, 35, received maximum recognition after becoming WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organizations) world champion, a title that consolidates his career as one of the current biggest names in kickboxing. He also holds championships at the Catalan, Spanish and Mediterranean levels, capping off a successful season.

A Night of Recognition

The gala was chaired by the mayor, David Bote, and the Councilor for Sports, Bea Delgado, and was attended by institutional representatives from the Catalan and provincial sports world. The event reivindicated sport as an element of collective pride and social cohesion, capable of uniting generations, neighborhoods and disciplines.

  • Female Youth: Isabel Shuang Cui Xu (Artistic Swimming)
  • Male Youth: Nil Poza Cervantes (Basketball)
  • Senior Female: Aihnoa Trigo Valldeperas and Claudia Fernàndez (Figure Skating)
  • Senior Male: Antonio Campoy (Kickboxing)
  • Deportista Special Olympic: Xenia Jubany (Hockey grass)
  • Special Paralympic Athlete: Daniel Ferrer Robles (Swimming)

  • Special Olympic: Team A of the Arquera Mataró Cultural and Sports Association (7-a-side soccer and indoor soccer)
  • Paralympic: Sports Adapted from the Center Natació Mataró (swimming)

Promotions were also highlighted, including those of Club Esportiu Futsal Mataro’s senior men’s B and women’s teams to Third National and Second National Division, respectively, as well as promotions for teams from the Center Natació Mataró and CE Mataró Escola de Futbol.

Anniversaries and Special Awards

The Night of Esport also honored historic clubs celebrating anniversaries, such as the Center Atlètic Laietania (100 years) and the Club Tennis Mataro (75 years). Special awards were given to Ivan Palanco (best technician), Francesc de Lanuza (best master’s athlete), Pep Folqué (best journalistic perform), and Ramón Torralba Jiménez (refereeing work). Berta Ferreras and Albert Ramos Viñolas received the award for best sports career, whereas Alberto Encinas was recognized as a sports coach.

School Sports and Safe Sport Campaign

The gala recognized the promotion of school sports, with awards to Escola GEM, Escola Rocafonda, Escola Maristes Valldemia and the Institut Alexandre Satorras. The municipal campaign In Mataró, safe sport was also presented, aiming to guarantee respect, equality and fair play.
