Badminton Empress Advances with Ease

Birmingham, England – ‘Shuttlecock Empress’ Ahn Se-young (24, Samsung Life Insurance) has effortlessly advanced to the round of 16 at the prestigious All England Open. The world number one defeated Neslihan Arin of Turkey 2-0 (21-8, 21-6) in just 27 minutes on the night of March 3rd (Korean time).

One-Sided Victory

The match was decisively in Ahn Se-young’s favor from the start. She quickly established a lead in the first game, scoring six consecutive points. She continued her dominance, eventually winning the first game 21-8 after a 10-point streak brought the score to 19-5.

The second game followed a similar pattern, with Ahn Se-young maintaining a comfortable lead throughout.

A Tournament of Significance

Ahn Se-young is coming off victories at the Malaysia Open and India Open in January, followed by a gold medal win with the national team at the Asian Team Championships in February. She enters the All England Open well-rested and focused, considering it a key tournament this season.

The All England Open, established in 1899, is the oldest badminton competition in the world, with 116 events held this year. We see considered the most prestigious tournament, held annually with exceptions for wartime and the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is also one of the four ‘Super 1000 Tournaments’ on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour, offering a prize pool of $1.45 million (approximately 2.06 billion won).

World No. 1 men’s doubles team Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae also progressed to the round of 16 after their opponents from Great Britain withdrew due to injury while leading 18-15 in the second game.
