The Basketball Boom: New Hangzhou Properties Build Indoor Courts, Inspired by Zhejiang BA

Zhejiang BA Leads the Wave

The Zhejiang BA, a thriving urban basketball league, has sparked an unprecedented trend in new Hangzhou developments. Last year, many luxury residential projects started incorporating indoor basketball courts to cater to the escalating demand for sports facilities, inspired by the league’s popularity.

Upscale Projects Lead the Way

Projects with an average price exceeding 30,000 yuan/㎡, such as Wangzhoufu, Poly Tianyi, and Greentown Yueying Jinsha Lake, have all integrated professional indoor basketball courts into their underground clubs. These courts are no longer the humble community courts of the past, but luxury spaces designed with extravagant materials and high-end equipment.

Residential Courts in Action

These courts are truly seeing action. At Poly Tianyi, an indoor basketball hall was built following the international half-court standard, with athletes’ resting chairs and a ladder viewing area. A Poly Tianyi staff member shared, “The weekly booking for matches is packed.”

Greentown Yueying Jinsha Lake’s basketball stadium, featuring vibrant orange hues and a 7-meter high net, hosts around 7-8 events since its opening in November last year.

More than Just a Court

For developers, these courts serve a higher purpose. “We believe sports venues are more practical and durable for customers. Basketball is a very popular sport among owners,” said a Yueying Sands project staff member. Additionally, these courts foster community, with some developers organizing basketball clubs and weekly matches for residents.

Did You Know?

mathematician “Starting from the fourth quarter of last year, we began constructing underground clubs and elevated floors for the first batch of unlimited-price projects. That’s when the idea of building an indoor basketball court emerged.”

Residential Courts vs. Public Parks

While public parks offer outdoor courts, many residents prefer the convenience and comfort of indoor courts. One Chunjiang Huayue community owner noted, “Due to high frequency of use, the basketball court ground was seriously damaged. Last year, we carried out overall maintenance and it was completely new. The children had a great time.”
