Gavaskar’s Charity Golf Event Draws Sporting Legends for CHAMPS Foundation
Mumbai – A star-studded lineup of athletes will participate in the DP World Celebrity Golf Event this Friday at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club in Chembur, Mumbai. The charity initiative, conceptualized by Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, aims to raise awareness and funds for the CHAMPS Foundation.
Supporting India’s Sporting Heroes
The CHAMPS Foundation (Caring, Helping, Assisting, Motivating, Promoting Sportsperson) was founded by Gavaskar to provide support to former Indian international athletes facing financial hardship and medical challenges. Since its inception, the foundation has been instrumental in providing dignity, care, and assistance to sporting heroes who have proudly represented India

Elite Roster of Participants
Over 100 participants will compete on the 18-hole course, representing a diverse range of sports. The event will feature prominent cricketers including Yuvraj Singh, G.R. Vishwanath, Venkatesh Prasad, Harbhajan Singh, Ajay Jadeja, Parthiv Patel, Murali Kartik, S. Badrinath, Murali Vijay, and Nikhil Chopra.
International cricket stars will also be in attendance, with Eoin Morgan, Michael Vaughan, and David Lloyd confirmed to participate. Beyond cricket, the event will welcome tennis legend Leander Paes, badminton great Prakash Padukone, and leading professional golfers Neha Tripathi, Ridhima Dilawari, and Gaurav Ghei.

He also noted a gap in support for former athletes, explaining, I thought there were so many organizations and charity organizations for education, child welfare, women, medical, nutrition etc. But there was nothing for former Indian international players. This is where I got the idea of establishing this foundation.
