Yucatecan Athletes Ready to Shine at 2024 Conade Nationals: A Delegation of Over 900 Receives Banner

With the commitment to provide their greatest effort to transcend and elevate the entity, a delegation of more than a thousand people, with 898 athletes, yesterday received the Yucatecan banner to participate in the 2024 edition of the Conade Nationals.

From May 10 to July 11, the main youth sports competition in the country will take place, and the Yucatecans were flagged at the facilities of the “Socorro Cerón Herrera” Multigymnasium of the Kukulcán Sports Complex. In addition to the athletes, a group of coaches, presidents of associations, doctors and operational personnel will attend, who will be distributed in the competitions to be held in Jalisco, Campeche, the State of Mexico and Colima.

“It is a commitment: we are going for everything for Yucatán,” said Mauricio Canul Facundo, one of the main exponents of weightlifting and part of the group that formed the escort that received the banner from the hands of the lawyer María Fritz Sierra, in charge of the governor’s office. The local delegation hopes to surpass the performance it had in 2023, when it won 65 gold medals, 71 silver and 83 bronze, placing itself in seventh place overall.

The ceremony was attended by Jorge Esteban Abud, director of IDEY; Alejandro Ruz Castro, mayor of Mérida; deputy Karem Achach Ramírez, and Leonel Escalante Aguilar, representative of the state Secretary of Education.

Lawyer Fritz Sierra, in her “debut” in sports activities at the head of the Executive, highlighted that athletes will have support for their training and consolidation, and there will be growth in infrastructure for that field, pointing out that it is a comprehensive commitment of the government together with the athletes.

In Campeche, 209 Yucatecans will compete, the main sports being chess, where Yucatán was national champion in 2023, with weightlifting, judo, handball, open water, triathlon and beach volleyball.

Jalisco will be the venue with the most Yucatecan athletes, with 634, while in the State of Mexico there will only be canoeing and rowing, with 35 competing there.— Gaspar Silveira
