Missy Jen Dorval Mbele et Mohamed Amine Silem were the only two Canadian athletes to find victory on the final day of individual competition at the Cadet World Championships in Lima, Peru.
In the under 70kg category, Dorval Mbele won his first round match against Lkhagvajav Amgalangangaa of Mongolia, landing two waza-aris to seal the victory after just over 2 minutes of combat.
Dorval Mbele, however, lowered her flag in her next duel where she was opposed to the Croatian Nika Slacek. The latter continued her journey to the second step of the podium.
In this same category, the Quebecer Charline Bourque was limited to just one fight after her loss to Bulgarian Emili Apostolova.
For those weighing over 70 kg, Emily Harris suffered defeat in her first fight of the day against Frenchwoman Leonie Minkada-Caquineau.
In the men’s over 90 kg category, Mohamed Amine Silem made a fine start to the Cadet World Championships with a swift victory over Peruvian Gercy Cabrera. However, he was slowed down in the next round by losing to Georgian Nodar Kobaladze by ippon.
As for them, Arthur Stevenson (+90 kg) and Angel Thematieu (-90 kg) were defeated in their first fight of the day.
The Cadet World Championships will conclude on Sunday in Lima with the presentation of the team competition. Canada will not, however, be in this event.
