Rotary Club Herne makes it possible
Yoga course for elementary school children
The Rotary Club Herne initiated a children’s yoga course at the Ohmstrasse primary school – in keeping with the Rotary project ‘Healthy Kids’. The course started after the 2024 summer holidays, and up to 20 children can now experience something new and relax every Friday. The course is led by the experienced children’s yoga teacher Carina Hölken from the Yoga Wombats.

“Yoga can be a valuable aid in creating a physical and mental balance to everyday life – and even primary school children need this. That’s why I’m very pleased about the partnership with the Rotary Club Herne. Thanks to this great support, our students can now take part in a children’s yoga course in the school’s own gym every week,” says headteacher Daniel Ache.
Yoga for primary school children offers numerous benefits. It not only promotes physical health through improved flexibility, strength and coordination, but also supports mental development. “Through yoga, children learn to concentrate better, reduce stress and develop increased self-confidence. These skills are particularly important in everyday school life,” says Angela Kischkel, project manager at the Rotary Club Herne.

An initial amount of €2,000.00 is available for the project, which will enable the yoga courses to be held at the Ohmstrasse primary school until the end of the year. The Rotary Club of Herne plans to secure funding for the project with further fundraising campaigns for the coming year.
