Tennis professional Yannick Hanfmann achieved revenge against Jakub Mensik at the ATP Masters in Rome. The Karlsruher eliminated the young Czech star in the first round 6:3, 6:2; two weeks ago Hanfmann had simply failed against Mensik (18) in his opening match in Madrid.

The 32-year-old Hanfmann converted his fifth match point after 88 minutes and will face the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (No. 29) in the second round at the Foro Italico. In the afternoon, qualifier Maximilian Marterer was eliminated from the clay court tournament; the Nuremberg native lost 4:6, 2:6 to local hero Flavio Cobolli.

In the women’s category, Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) followed Angelique Kerber in round two. Maria (36) beat Linda Fruhvirtova (Czech Republic) 7:6 (7:5), 3:6, 6:2, but now has a difficult task ahead of her. It’s against the Russian Darja Kassatkina, No. 10 on the seeding list. In the third set against Fruhvirtova, Maria Breaks scored 4:2 and 6:2. Kerber had already beaten Lauren Davis (USA) on Tuesday (6:1, 6:0).
