Thai Women’s Football Team Ready for ASEAN Challenge
The Thai women’s football team is set to take on Cambodia and Indonesia in the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship. The tournament, set to kick off on August 9, is a significant event for the team as they aim to regain their championship title after a two-year hiatus.
Thailand’s Lineup and Coaching Staff
Led by head coach Naruephon “Chaba Kaew” Piyaphon, the team consists of 23 players, including several new faces. The team has been preparing for the tournament, with their first training session taking place on July 30 in Indonesia, where the tournament will be held.
“We’re excited to be back in the tournament after two years,” Chaba Kaew said. “Our team has been training hard, and we’re ready to face our ASEAN rivals.”
Unusual Appointment: A Male Coach for the Women’s Team
An interesting development ahead of the tournament is the appointment of a male coach, Pichaya Petkeaw, to lead the women’s team. Petkeaw is usually a coach for the men’s U-23 national team, and his appointment has sparked some curiosity and intrigue.
“I’ve worked with some of these players before in the national youth teams,” Petkeaw said. “I’m confident we can do well in this tournament.”
The Road Ahead: Group Stage and Beyond
Thailand has been drawn into a group with Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. They will play their first match against Cambodia on August 9, with Indonesia coming up next on August 11. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.
