CDOS Somme Launches Volunteer Trophy, Highlighting Unsung Heroes

The Committee for the Development and Control of Sports (CDOS) of the Somme region has made a significant stride in acknowledging the vital role of volunteers by introducing the Volunteer Trophy. The awards helped shine a light on the countless individuals who tirelessly contribute to the region’s sports associations.

In his speech at the ceremony, CDOS Somme president Thierry Dambrine stressed the importance of volunteers and slammed the lack of progress in providing them with official recognition and support:

Our grassroots sports associations could not survive without these selfless individuals. Yet, we cannot ignore the growing complexity of administrative tasks and the need for real support and status for our volunteers.

The inaugural Volunteer Trophies honored dedicated individuals and associations from various sports disciplines, including:

  • Jean Paul Molin (Athletics, Vyatajog)
  • Florence Boxoen and Richard Desjardins (Judo)
  • Marie Flandre (Canoeing, Ché Barboteux Amiens)
  • Alain Vignon (Cycling, EC Villers Bretonneux)
  • Nicolas Bridoux (Football, AC Hallencourt) and Alain Leclercq (FC La Montoye)
  • Christian Lefebvre (Handisport, Cercle d’Epée Marivaux Amiens Nord)
  • Bernadette Hartmann-Ehrart and Stéphane Merigout (Volunteer category, Judo and associated disciplines Kidokan FE B)

Departmental Advisors Weigh In on Volunteering and Sports Budget

The departmental advisors, Guillaume Duflot and Mr. Demouy, discussed the importance of volunteering and the need for increased sports budget support. Duflot expressed hope for a 1% sports budget mirage, while Demouy highlighted the trust between the Department and CDOS Somme and the importance of the Maison des Sports.
