“Ees, two three, free for ölla sport” is how the “Xangsverein” singers X deliberately present their musical offerings at the Meng-Ham-Arena. TSV 1864 members are delighted to receive musical bouquets as they celebrate double celebrations at this year’s Regular General Assembly. The club is 160 years old and the judo department was founded 50 years ago. There was much to talk about in the hall in Mengerreut-Hammern in the Frankenblick district, which many members know more as a playground than a holiday hall. Mayor Ute Müller-Göthe says that the club’s younger generation has moved away from the talks to the badminton net or the judo mat, saying that “the fun and sportiness of Mengerguez is becoming less and less”. Club boss Hartmut Franz sees the strength of the club in a broad sense, which is a key word for popular sports, hence the theme of the club – under different names – for the past 160 years.
