Once again injured in the ankle, Victor Wembanyama will miss his ninth game of the season with San Antonio, this Monday against Phoenix.

Last November 1, for his fifth NBA game, Victor Wembanyama scored 38 points against Phoenix, for what still remains his record for points since his arrival in the big league. He scored 18 and 13 points in his other two games against the Suns, but he will not take part in the last meeting between San Antonio and Phoenix this season, scheduled for Monday in Texas. The 20-year-old French player has been suffering from his left ankle since Saturday’s match against…Phoenix (106-131 defeat by Spurs), in which he did not play the last quarter. He will therefore miss his ninth match of the season, once again due to an ankle injury, even if during his first eight absences, it was his right ankle that was to blame. The length of his unavailability has not been disclosed, but he has only missed two games in a row once this season, two weeks ago.

The worst season in Spurs history?

The San Antonio Spurs, who have lost 56 games this season (for 15 wins), have won only once without Victor Wembanyama, at Golden State on March 8. Previously, they had lost the first seven games without him, by an average of 10.4 points: at New Orleans, Milwaukee, Dallas and Portland in December, against Chicago and Charlotte in January, and at Sacramento in March. Victor Wembanyama has averaged 20.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.4 blocks since the start of the season.. Without him, the Spurs should suffer against the Suns of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, currently sixth and fighting for direct qualification in the play-offs. The Texans are a long way from the play-offs. Last in the Western Conference, they will finish thirteenth at best, and will have to win five of their last eleven games to avoid equaling the franchise’s worst record (15 wins – 56 losses), which dates from 1997. For this, it would be worth better than “Wemby” comes back quickly. Why not Thursday at Utah or Friday against New York?
