Veronika Kudermetova, currently ranked 19th in the world and seeded No. 8, emerged victorious in the WTA 500 tournament held in Tokyo on Sunday. She defeated the American Jessica Pegula, who is ranked fourth in the WTA and seeded No. 2, in a thrilling final match with a score of 7-5, 6-1. The entire match lasted for one hour and 24 minutes. This triumph marks Kudermetova’s second title on the professional circuit, following her victory in Charleston two years ago.
In the quarter-finals, Kudermetova faced a tough challenge against Iga Swiatek, the world No. 2. However, she managed to overcome the formidable opponent in a grueling three-hour and 25-minute battle. In the semi-finals, Kudermetova engaged in another intense match against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, prevailing with a score of 7-6 [6] 6-7 [2] 6-3.
