Valentine Invitational: A Premier Amateur Golf Tournament with Rich History

The Valentine Invitational stands as one of the most prestigious amateur golf events in the mid-Atlantic region. Hosted continuously by Hermitage Country Club since its inception in 1931, the tournament has cultivated a strong identity as a premier invitational, not just within Virginia, but across the East Coast.

Tournament Format and Competition

The Valentine is a 54-hole medal play tournament and is recognized as a VSGA Player Ranking Event. This year’s event boasts what is described as the strongest and most-geographically diverse field in the tournament’s history.

The 84th Valentine Invitational is scheduled for August 21-23, 2026. Registration will be open from April 1, 2026, at 8:00 am to May 15, 2026, at 11:59 pm.

A National Draw

The tournament attracts elite Mid-Amateurs (aged 25 and older) and Seniors from as far away as California, Florida, Texas and Ontario, Canada. In total, the field of 108 players represents 15 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada.

Recent Champions

John Hunter (Houston, TX) claimed victory at the 83rd Valentine, finishing at -12 (204) after sinking a dramatic 30-foot par putt on the 18th hole. Kyle Downey finished as runner-up. In the Senior Division, Brian Quackenbush (Aiken, SC) won with a score of -12 (204), edging out defending champion Scott Shingler.
