Inverness Club to Host 2045 U.S. Open – A Return to Golfing History

The USGA has announced that Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, will be the site of the 145th U.S. Open in 2045, continuing a long and storied partnership.

A Championship Return

Inverness Club will once again welcome the U.S. Open, scheduled for June 2045. This selection underscores the club’s significant role in American golf history and its ongoing relationship with the United States Golf Association (USGA).

The 2045 championship will be the 13th USGA championship contested at Inverness Club.

A Legacy of Golfing Greats

Founded in 1903, Inverness has a rich history of hosting major championships. The course has previously hosted the U.S. Open in 1920, 1931, 1957, and 1979. Notable champions at Inverness include Ted Ray (1920), Billy Burke (1931), Dick Mayer (1957), and Hale Irwin (1979).

USGA CEO Mike Whan said, “The Inverness Club has played a major role in the history of American golf, and we are proud to continue this collaboration through these championships.”

In addition to the U.S. Open, Inverness has hosted two U.S. Senior Opens, one U.S. Amateur, the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur, two PGA Championships (1986, 1993), two NCAA Championships (1944, 2009), and the 2021 Solheim Cup.

Future Championships at Inverness

The announcement of the 2045 U.S. Open is part of a broader commitment from the USGA to Inverness. The club is also scheduled to host the 2033 U.S. Girls’ Junior and the 2036 U.S. Women’s Amateur, as well as the already scheduled 2027 U.S. Women’s Open and the 2029 U.S. Amateur.

John Swigart, chairman of the club’s championship committee stated, “We are honored to strengthen and expand our partnership with the USGA. Hosting these championships demonstrates our club’s deep respect for the traditions of golf, as well as our commitment to supporting competitive golf at all levels.”
