By: DSPORTS

On Saturday, the Uruguayan national team, known as La Celeste, will go head-to-head against the Bahamas in the semifinals of the 2023 Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament. The match will take place at the Ciudad de Santiago del Estero Stadium in Santiago del Estero.

La Celeste’s Journey to the Semifinals

Despite a challenging run in Group B, La Celeste managed to secure a spot in the semifinals. After a victory against Colombia (80-65) in their opening match, they suffered defeats against Chile (70-78) and the Virgin Islands (65-69).

With a similar record (1-2) to Colombia and the Virgin Islands, Uruguay advanced due to a narrow point difference in the overall balance (+3).

Bahamas’ Impressive Performance

The Bahamas showcased their strength by defeating Argentina (101-89) in their first match, despite trailing by 18 points in the first quarter. They relied on their NBA players, including DeAndre Ayton, Eric Gordon, and Buddy Hield, to turn the game around. In their second match, they comfortably defeated Cuba (109-68).

Now, the Bahamas will aim to utilize their talented roster once again to secure a spot in the final.

The Road to the Final

If the Bahamas emerges victorious, they will face the winner of the clash between Argentina and Chile in the final on Sunday. The champion of the tournament will earn a place in the 2023 Pre-Olympic event.
