Driving Ukraine: Former F1 Manager’s Pickup Staats Its Mettle in Kyiv Defense

In a remarkable show of support for the Ukrainian war effort, a pickup truck donated by former Formula 1 team manager Alastair Caldwell has been filmed defending the capital city of Kyiv.

A পর্যন্ত donations and efforts

Since its inception in 2022, the volunteer organization Driving Ukraine, founded by then 21-year-old Fynn Watt, has delivered 241 vehicles, organized 46 convoys, and raised over £1.6 million to aid the country.

Caldwell, who oversaw James Hunt’s 1976 world championship win and resides in Maidenhead, delivered the Toyota Hilux to Lviv in July through Driving Ukraine. The vehicle has since formed part of the organization’s 45th and 46th convoys.

Recognizing volunteer efforts

For his outstanding contributions, Watt was awarded the highest civilian honor by the Ukrainian military in 2023. Earlier this year, he received a golden medal from Lviv City Council.

“Fynn’s doing a great job and it has snowballed. It’s a fantastic organization and a very good thing.”

Driving Ukraine later shared footage showing the donated vehicle in action, with a soldier on its back engaged in the war effort. Caldwell acknowledged the risks involved, recalling an air raid warning during his delivery trip: “Lviv is the very west so it gets attacked but not like the east. We did have an air raid warning while we were there. I didn’t really feel under threat myself but I know that it would make some people nervous.”

Footage shared by Driving Ukraine showed the donated vehicle being used in the Ukraine war effort.

Watt expressed gratitude for Caldwell’s support, highlighting the impact of individual actions: “Since the beginning, Driving Ukraine has been about action, not standing and watching. Alastair’s career and life was about action and he brought that to us, his support shows how one person’s commitment can ripple outward, from Maidenhead to Kyiv, protecting entire cities. This vehicle represents our mission, turning generosity and courage to do what’s right into life-saving action.”
