Trocheck Returns to Florida: Nostalgia, Success, and the Winter Classic
Trocheck’s Journey
Vincent Trocheck’s hockey journey has seen many changes since leaving South Florida almost six years ago. The now-Ranger center has enjoyed a career-high 77-point season (2023-24) and is poised for potential Olympic glory in 2026.
Trocheck, who signed a seven-year deal with the Rangers in 2022, is off to a strong start this season with 20 points (8 goals, 12 assists) in 25 games. Off the ice, he and his wife Hillary welcomed their second child, Lennon, after his trade to Carolina.
Return to Florida
“My son was there for the first two years of his life,” Trocheck said, reflecting on his return to Florida. “He was born in Pittsburgh but he was raised there for the first couple of years of his life. We go back to see where we lived. It just brings back some nostalgia a little bit. That part of it will be fun and special.”
Trocheck is set to face the Panthers in the Winter Classic at Miami Gardens on New Year’s Day, following a game in Washington on New Year’s Eve. The former Panthers’ players present will be a stark contrast to Trocheck’s tenure there.
“There are very few guys left on the team that were there when I was there, but a lot of the staff is still there.”

Panthers’ Transformation
The Panthers have evolved since Trocheck’s departure, winning back-to-back Stanley Cups (2023, 2024) and boasting a core consisting of Aleksander Barkov, Aaron Ekblad, and Sergei Bobrovsky. Trocheck, though, only experienced one playoff appearance during his time in Florida.
Outdoor Hockey in Miami
Trocheck will participate in the Panthers’ first-ever outdoor game at the Winter Classic. He looks forward to the event, expressing admiration for the growth of hockey in South Florida:
“It’s great for hockey. I feel like they’ve brought so much excitement there when it comes to hockey. The youth programs there are much better now. I think (Panthers owner) Vinny Viola has just done a great job of turning it into what it is today.”

Trocheck’s Take on Panthers’ Success
Despite leaving the Panthers before their championship success, Trocheck harbors no ill will:
“But, for me, you leave a team and then they win a couple Cups, it’s not always fun. I’m still happy for the people that I was with down there.”
