India’s run at the 2024 Macau Open Super 300 ended on Saturday as third seeds Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s doubles event.

The Indian pair, ranked 23rd in the world, lost 17-21, 21-16, 10-21 to Chinese Taipei’s Hang En-Zhu in a match that lasted just one hour. Only 2024 marked the third time the Indians lost to Hsieh and Hung, the other two times coming in the round of 32 and quarter-finals at the China Open and Canada Open.

Hsieh and Hung took an 8-5 lead in the first game and the Indians were quickly put on the back foot. Tressa-Gaytry tied the score at 8-all, but the Chinese Taipei pair won five straight points to take a 13-8 lead.

The Indian pair once again fought back to make it 15-all, but Hsieh and Hung held their nerve to close out the opening game 21-17.

The second game started evenly with the Indians taking a narrow 11-10 lead into halftime. Tresa and Gayatri raced ahead to a 17-12 lead before closing out the second game 21-16.

They blew the Indians completely out of the water with all to play in the decisive third game and raced to a 14-2 lead. Although Tressa and Gayatri recovered to take the score to 10-18, it was too late as the Chinese Taipei pair made it 21-10 and eventually closed out the match.
