Ministry of Transport’s New Gym Project Sparks Surprise

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility in Spain is pushing ahead with plans to set up a new gym for its employees at its Madrid headquarters, despite ongoing investigations into a recent AVE train tragedy. The ambitious project has sparked reactions within the ministry, with some officials expressing surprise at the timing and priority of the endeavor.

Ministry Books Space for Gym

The ministry has already secured a 224-square-meter space on the second floor of its building for the gym. In a notable move, it has sent out a preliminary consultation to various companies in the sector, seeking market insights and pricing estimates for the project.

Preliminary Consultation Garners Mixed Reactions

While this preliminary consultation is a common practice in procurement, the timing of the move has raised eyebrows. The ministry sent out the technical information on January 23, the very same day that Minister Óscar Puente held a press conference to update the public on the progress of the investigation into the Adamuz train accident. Some ministry officials have suggested thatthe accident should have taken precedence over the gym project.

Ministry Emphasizes Importance of Employee Well-being

The ministry’s endeavor aligns with its efforts to improve the work performance and well-being of its employees. The gym, set to be equipped over the coming months, will comprise three rooms and two changing rooms, totaling approximately 160 square meters. It will offer various activities, including yoga, Pilates, and cardiovascular exercises, and be open for use by employees for one hour daily.
