Tour of the Alps: first stop at the Norwegian Foss

The 26-year-old from Ineos-Grenadiers returns to success after winning the 2022 world time trial. Ganna takes the lead in the group’s sprint

When he won the world time trial championship in Australia on 18 September 2022, it was undoubtedly a surprise. And since then the Norwegian Tobias Foss, who in the meantime moved from Visma to Ineos-Grenadiers, had no longer achieved any success. Until today, until the first stage of the Tour of the Alps, 133 very hilly km from Egna to Cortina on the Strada del Vino which also gave him the first leader’s jersey of the Euregio race (conclusion on Friday). In the narrow sprint that decided the day’s success, Foss preceded the Australian Harper (Jayco) and the Colombian Chaves (Ef). The best of our team was Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain), 7th at 3”. For Foss it is the first success as a pro in a road race. Also highlighted among the favorites for the final victory are O’Connor (4th), Thomas and Bardet. While Filippo Ganna, 12th at 34”, regulated the first chasing group. The second stage is Tuesday: 189 kilometers from Salorno to Stans, Austria.
