“For several years we have been working with the local authorities, addressing issues of sport organization, accommodation, transport, and security,” said Tony Estanguet, head of the Paris 2024 organizing committee.

“Regarding the judges’ tower, we have reopened discussions to improve it and address the concerns of the local population. Engineers, local authorities, and the Polynesian government are currently exploring different options, including the potential reuse of the previous tower’s foundations,” added Estanguet, highlighting that six options are being considered.

Estanguet and Oudéa-Castéra to Visit Tahiti

“By the end of November, a decision will be made on whether to use the old tower or construct a new one for judging and filming,” stated Estanguet, emphasizing that the Teahupoo site will not be changed. He mentioned a previous public meeting held on September 15 to address this matter.

“Our goal is to demonstrate our ability to adapt our organization to this site while preserving it as much as possible. We will work closely with experts in environmental preservation and security to find the best compromise with local authorities,” insisted the president of Paris 2024.

“I plan to visit Tahiti in the coming weeks, and I have discussed it with the Polynesian president. We are currently coordinating the best dates for my visit,” announced Estanguet. Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Amélie Oudéa-Castéra also confirmed her visit to Tahiti before the end of December.
