Tlaxcala, Mexico, is set to become a hub for sporting passion and talent this year as it hosts the prestigious CONADE National Olympiad. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, this week-long event (starting ) brings together children and young people across Mexico, representing the future of the country’s sports landscape.
Sports Disciplines Taking Center Stage
- Badminton: A racquet sport involving a shuttlecock hit over a net, played in single and doubles modalities.
- Taekwondo (combat): An Olympic martial art combining controlled kicks and strikes, scored electronically.
- Archery: Precision sport aiming arrows at targets from varying distances, with recurve and compound options for individual and team play.
- Rhythmic Gymnastics: Artistic performances combining dance, music, and devices like hoop, ball, ribbon, and clubs.
- Trampoline Gymnastics: Acrobatic jumps and somersaults on a trampoline, judged on difficulty, execution, and flight time.
- Artistic Gymnastics: A mix of strength and acrobatics, featuring apparatus like vault, uneven bars, beam, floor, pommels, rings, jump, parallel bars, and fixed bar.
- Roller Skating (Artistic & Speed): Artistic events combine dance and acrobatics, while speed races track or road racing.
Beyond Competition: Values and Opportunities
“Being a venue means more than hosting competitions. It is an opportunity to encourage our young people and children towards sports,” said CONADE Director. Sporting disciplines instill values like discipline, respect, perseverance, and teamwork. Furthermore, sports open doors to academic scholarships and international stages, keeping youth away from social problems.
