Tiger Woods Leaves Masters Door Open Amid Recovery
Pacific Palisades, CA – Tiger Woods has not dismissed the possibility of playing in the Masters Tournament this April, despite continuing to recover from back surgery. The 15-time major champion addressed reporters Tuesday, offering an update on his health and future plans.
Masters Appearance Still Possible
When asked directly if playing at Augusta National, starting April 9th, was out of the question, Woods responded simply, No.
This statement comes as Woods continues his rehabilitation following a lumbar disc replacement surgery in October.
Recovery Progress and Challenges
Woods acknowledged the ongoing challenges of his recovery. As far as the disc replacement, it’s just sore. It takes time,
he said. My body has been through a lot. It’s just one of those things where it’s each and every day, I keep trying, I keep progressing, I keep working on it, trying to get stronger, trying to get more endurance in this body and trying to get it at a level at which I can play at the highest level again.
He also mentioned receiving clearance in December to resume chipping and putting, but noted that he is still working his way back to full strength. His Achilles tendon is no longer an issue.
Beyond the Course: Ryder Cup and PGA TOUR Schedule
Woods’s involvement extends beyond his own playing schedule. He is also considering a potential role as U.S. Captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup, a position he previously declined due to time constraints. He also spoke about efforts to reshape the PGA TOUR schedule.
“I thought I spent a lot of hours practicing in my prime,” Woods said. “It doesn’t compare to what we’ve done in the boardroom.”
