Frances Tiafoe Returns to Team World for Laver Cup in San Francisco

American Set for His Sixth Appearance at Laver Cup

Frances Tiafoe, the American tennis star, has been confirmed as the latest addition to Team World for the Laver Cup, set to take place at Chase Center in San Francisco from 19-21 September 2025.

Tiafoe will join fellow Americans Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Tommy Paul, and #NextGenATP Brazilian Joao Fonseca, under the captaincy of tennis legend Andre Agassi. One spot remains to be announced.

Tiafoe’s Laver Cup History

A five-time Laver Cup competitor, Tiafoe has been a key figure for Team World since the inaugural event in Prague in 2017. With a 6-5 win-loss record, he has played an integral role in Team World’s victories, including the historic 13-11 win over Team Europe in London in 2022.

“Frances is a perfect fit for the Laver Cup,” said Team World Captain Agassi. “He’s a big-match player, who thrives in the team environment, and is a threat in both singles and doubles. Beyond that, he brings incredible energy while on court and to our bench when supporting the team. His presence lifts everyone around him. I’m thrilled to have him on our team.”

Tiafoe’s Season So Far and His Expectations for the Laver Cup

This season, Tiafoe has made it to the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros and was a finalist at the ATP 250 event in Houston. He is a two-time US Open semi-finalist (2022, 2024) and is eager to bring his best to the Laver Cup in San Francisco.

“There’s nothing like Laver Cup,” said Tiafoe. “I love playing for Team World and competing alongside guys who are usually my rivals. We’ve built something special, and I can’t wait to bring that same energy to San Francisco. Playing at home in front of U.S. fans means a lot – and I want to do everything I can to help us win.”

Laver Cup 2025: What to Expect

• The 2025 edition of the Laver Cup will mark the event’s first appearance on the U.S. West Coast.
• The state-of-the-art Chase Center, home of the seven-time NBA Champion Golden State Warriors and WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries, will host tennis for the first time.
• Each match win is worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday, and three points on Sunday, with the first team to reach 13 points winning the Laver Cup.
