SEA Games 33: Nguyen Thuy Linh’s Thrilling Battle and Vietnam’s Badminton Update
Linh’s Gutsy Performance in First Singles Match
In her debut women’s singles match at the SEA Games 33, fourth seed Nguyen Thùy Linh faced a tough opponent in 19-year-old Indonesian Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya, ranked 82nd in the world.
Linh started slow, letting Amartya score the first points, but the two soon engaged in a thrilling exchange. At 8:8, Amartya took the lead, pulling away to 15:9. However, Linh didn’t give up and fought back, eventually winning the first set 21:16 after a remarkable comeback.
In the second set, Linh had an early psychological advantage as Amartya repeatedly hit the ball out, giving Linh points. But the Indonesian regained her composure, taking the lead 20:18. In a tense moment, Linh tried to fend off the match point but ultimately lost 20:22.
In the deciding set, both players fought neck and neck, but Amartya’s youthful energy and relentless attacks proved too much for the fatigued Linh, who lost 14:21.
