Danish Judoca Mads Moller Shines in Italy, Wins Gold at Lombardia Open
From Denmark to Castellanza: Mads Moller’s Judo Journey
Mads Moller, a 20-year-old judoca from Denmark, has been making waves in Italy while on an Erasmus program at LIUC. The young athlete, born in 2002, hails from a small town called Vipperoed, where he lives with his parents and two younger sisters. Moller’s fascination with martial arts began as a child, influenced by the actions of martial arts legends like Bruce Lee, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Chuck Norris. This led him to start practicing JuJitsu under his father’s guidance and eventually become the Danish JuJitsu champion in 2013.
Moller’s passion for martial arts extended to judo as well. He spent time training under renowned judo champions, such as Benoit Campargue (France), Tommy Macias (Sweden), and Georgii Zantaraia (Ukraine). His dedication and hard work paid off, securing him a fifth-place finish at the Nordic championships earlier this year.
Bridging Languages and Cultures on the Tatami
Since September, Moller has been training regularly with the Castellanza Judo Club. Despite the language barrier, he has found common ground with fellow judocas, communicating through the universal language of sport and judo. With the help of FIJLKAM – Lombardy’s judo sector, Moller was able to participate in the Lombardia Open in Gorle, in the province of Bergamo, where he triumphantly won the gold medal in the category of +100 belts up to brown.
“I had the extraordinary opportunity to participate in this tournament in Bergamo, where I won gold and first place. I am very grateful for the help I received from my coaches and everyone at the club: for making me feel welcome, for helping me enter the competition, and for giving me this precious experience.”

International Friendships and Future Hopes
Moller expressed his gratitude for the support he received and the new connections he’s forged through his love for judo. The Danish judoca extended an invitation to his Italian friends to visit his judo club in Holbæk, Denmark. This warmth and camaraderie demonstrate the unifying power of sports and the bond that can be forged between athletes of different cultures.
