Thomas & Uber Cup 2026: Teams Confirmed for Badminton’s Premier Team Events

Horsens, Denmark – The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has officially announced the list of 16 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams that will compete at the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup 2026. The most prestigious team tournaments in the world will take place in Horsens, Denmark from April 24 to May 3, 2026.

Qualification Process

All participating teams underwent a rigorous qualification process through continental team championships. In addition to this, tickets for the finals were awarded via quotas for the winner, the defending champion and the team with the best world ranking.

Thomas Cup Participants & Seeding

Tickets for the Thomas Cup were awarded to the semi-finalists of the Asian and European Team Championships, the champions of Africa, Pan America and Oceania, as well as the hosts and the reigning champions. Several other countries completed the list of participants via the world ranking route.

Determining Thomas Cup seeds is based on the accumulated world rankings of the three men’s singles players and the top two men’s doubles pairs from each country as of February 17, 2026. Defending champion China occupied the top seed with a total of 390,513 points. Japan, the Asian champions, is seeded fourth with 304,891 points, while France is seeded fifth thanks to its status as champions of the European Team Championship.

Numerous countries also guaranteed tickets through the regional champions route, such as Algeria (Africa), Australia (Oceania), and Canada (Pan America). Malaysia, India and Thailand completed the list of participants across the global rankings.

Uber Cup Participants & History

In the women’s sector, Bulgaria made history by winning the European Women’s Team Championship for the first time. Bulgaria qualified with Denmark in second place, while Ukraine and Türkiye reached the semi-finals.

From the Asian zone, South Korea emerged as Asian champions and secured a place in the final, followed by China as runners-up and reigning Uber Cup champions. Taiwan and Indonesia also advanced after reaching the semi-finals. Meanwhile, South Africa (Africa), Canada (Pan America) and Australia (Oceania) have confirmed their tickets as champions of their respective regions.

The remaining Uber Cup spots were filled by the world ranking occupied by Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, India and France.
