A Lifelong Passion Ignited

Stillwater, OK – Thomas Gadecki’s path to Oklahoma State tennis began not on the court, but on the sidelines. Long before donning the orange and black, the Australian native discovered his love for the sport watching his siblings play at their local club.

Well, at a young age, I was around, like four years traditional, watching my brothers and sister play at our local club,” Gadecki said. “So, any chance I could pick up a racquet and play, I would take that chance. Thomas Gadecki

That early exposure sparked a competitive fire that would eventually lead him across the globe to compete in the Big 12 Conference.

Family Foundation and Big 12 Challenges

Gadecki credits his family with providing unwavering support throughout his development. His mother, sister, and brothers all played crucial roles in his journey.

I would say for sure my mom, my sister, but too my brothers,” he said when asked about the biggest influences on his career. “Mom sacrificed countless hours trying to make sure I’m getting training and getting to tournaments throughout Australia. Thomas Gadecki

Now competing at the collegiate level, Gadecki recognizes the heightened competition within the Big 12.

Competition is tough,” Gadecki said. “We are playing some really excellent schools. A lot of talented players, so I feel like everyone can play. We just kind of control what we can control. We try to do everything we can in practice to make sure we are handling our business because everyone can play. Thomas Gadecki

He emphasizes the importance of focus and preparation in a conference where the margins are razor thin.

Team First Mentality

Gadecki’s approach extends beyond individual performance, embracing a team-first mentality that he finds particularly rewarding about college tennis.

It is just way more fun,” he said. “The camaraderie of boys who obviously want to achieve the same goal. It is boys who love to hang out and want to spend time off the court. Thomas Gadecki

He highlights the unique energy and support system within the team dynamic, where players can feed off one another’s momentum. He also noted that he plays for the guy to the right and the left of you.

Future Aspirations and Gratitude

Looking ahead, Gadecki has clear ambitions to pursue a professional tennis career, while maximizing his collegiate experience.

I will try to play professionally, obviously,” he said. “My plan is to play for four years, unless I am doing really well prior, but just take advantage of the opportunity in college and all the advantages that come with it. Thomas Gadecki

He expresses deep gratitude for the coaching staff, specifically head coach Dustin Taylor and assistant coach Max Stewart, acknowledging their pivotal role in his development.

DT and Max (Stewart) have been unreal,” Gadecki said. “I have so much trust in those guys. They’ve shaped me and have better visions for me. Every day, they push me to strive to my best potential. Thomas Gadecki

Gadecki also gained unique coaching experience at Princeton and Yale, offering a different perspective on the game.

A Privilege to Represent Oklahoma State

For Gadecki, representing Oklahoma State is a source of immense pride.

It is a massive privilege,” he said. “I am so glad and happy to be here. I couldn’t think of anywhere else to be. Thomas Gadecki
