Llull Reaches Recent Heights in Copa del Rey

Every game he plays, his legend grows. Sergio Llull is at a point in his career where each time he takes to the court, historical rankings of the competition he is playing in may need to be updated. In his case, that already happened in the quarterfinals against Unicaja, and he still has more opportunities for accolades.

Llull now holds two historical records in the Copa del Rey. He already led in three-pointers with 78, significantly ahead of the second-place holder, Juan Carlos Navarro (63), and the top 10 is comprised entirely of retired players. His dominance in this category is expected to continue for a long time. He also surpassed Navarro and Felipe Reyes to become the all-time leader in minutes played in the Copa del Rey.

Nearing More Milestones

As Real Madrid faces Valencia, Llull will tie Navarro as the second player with the most games played in the Copa, both with 44, trailing only Felipe Reyes’ 51.

If Madrid defeats Valencia, Llull will tie Reyes for the most total victories in the Copa (36). With 35 victories already, Llull would surpass Reyes with another win, and would achieve a solo record if Real Madrid becomes champion.

Chasing Scoring Records

While more challenging, Llull is also within reach of the Copa del Rey’s all-time scoring record. He needs to score 24 points in the remaining two games to surpass Jordi Villacampa’s long-standing record of 491 points, set in 1997.
