Revolutionary Shield Change: A New Era for Estudiantes de La Plata
Unveiling the New Silver Student Shield
The historic Argentine soccer club, Estudiantes de La Plata, has announced a significant visual transformation with the launch of their new shield. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the club, although the change will be gradual and fans can expect to see the traditional badge on club clothing for at least the current season. “We are starting a renewed stage,” president Juan Sebastián Verón declared.
A Night of Nostalgia and Anticipation
The unveiling of the new shield came just days after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against River Plate at the Estadio Único. The match was marked by emotions running high and nostalgia, as various posters featuring iconic figures like Alejandro Sabella, Carlos Bilardo, and Osvaldo Zubeldía were displayed around La Plata. This served as an homage to the club’s history while setting the stage for the upcoming visual change.
The new shield, as shown in a trailer video, maintains the typography in uppercase, but with a renewed design. The emblematic lion has also been revamped, and the club flag will undergo modifications, with the ‘E’ no longer appearing on the left end and a transformation in the triangular shape.
Rethinking Club Management and Future Vision
At a press conference for the new shield launch, Verón shared his enthusiasm for the project and the collective effort behind it. “There is a very important job; we think about rethinking club management, seeing ourselves involved in that and projecting ourselves in the future: how we want to leave the club, so that tomorrow the young people continue what is being done,” he stated.
A Challenge to Preserve Essence and Innovation
According to Verón, finding the right balance between maintaining the club’s essence and incorporating innovative elements was challenging. “It was not easy to give meaning to this, thinking that we all feel part of this new design,” he admitted. Despite the complexities, the former soccer player emphasized that the goal is to build a comprehensive brand strategy, with all sectors of the club involved in decision-making.
Adrian Damario: The Designer’s Perspective
Adrian Damario, one of the designers responsible for the new shield, discussed the pillars on which the redesign was built. “This was built in two columns: the new symbology and the development of a typography of students of La Plata, designed letter by letter,” he explained. He also reassured fans that the history of the club was taken into consideration, stating, “With this the story was not discarded; we rely on history and evolved to project it. Changing a visual identity is not changing the identity of the club; it is to reinforce it
.
A Two-Stage Implementation Plan
The shift towards the new shield will take place over two stages. Throughout the current season, the traditional badge will continue to be used. Come the 2026 collection, however, all club apparel will bear the new shield, as confirmed by Verón.
