Ex-Leicester City Goalkeeper Russell Hoult Battles Terminal Liver Disease

Devastating Diagnosis for English Soccer Legend

In 2023, former Leicester City goalkeeper Russell Hoult was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), a liver disease that inflames the bile ducts. Just a year later, he received another heartbreaking diagnosis: stage 4 bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma), leaving him with a terminal prognosis and in palliative care. His daughter, Kayleight, shared:

“In September 2023, we received the devastating news that he also suffered from bile duct cancer in stage 4. Recently, they informed us that both diseases are terminal, and now he receives palliative care, something that, as a family, is incredibly difficult for us to accept.”

The Fight Against Cholangiocarcinoma

Hoult’s family is organizing a charity marathon in Leicester on October 26 to raise funds for the UK’s only cholangiocarcinoma-focused charity, AMMF. Kayleight explains:

“AMMF is the only beneficial organization in the UK dedicated to raising awareness, providing information, and financing crucial investigations on cholangiocarcinoma. His work is essential to support families such as ours and boost progress towards better treatments.”
